A new wave of protests has erupted across Iran.

A new wave of protests has erupted in Tehran and other cities across Iran.

Violent clashes have been reported between students and security forces at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology and Amirkabir University of Technology. Direct confrontations took place between students and the pro-government Basij militia, which is part of the IRGC.

Protestors were heard chanting slogans such as "Death to the Dictator" and "Long live the King." These demonstrations were organized to commemorate the protestors killed during the violence in January 2026. Beyond Tehran, reports of unrest have also emerged from cities like Mashhad and Abdanan.

Government Response & Geopolitical Context

  • Internet Restrictions: The Iranian government has once again imposed internet shutdowns in several areas to regain control of the situation.
  • Containment: The IRGC and security forces have been deployed outside university campuses to prevent the protests from spreading into the streets.
  • International Tension: This domestic unrest comes at a time of peak tension between the United States and Iran. There is a heavy U.S. military presence in the region, and President Donald Trump has maintained a hardline stance regarding the nuclear deal.
